mysti77
Can they be consecutive days or must there be a rest day in between? I work full time and have a 4 year old so need to cook dinner, get him ready for bed etc before my run. Not a morning person and struggle enough to get out of the house on time so mornings are out. Hubby helps in the evenings but I can't expect him to do bedtime 4 nights a week (I have hockey training one night a week). Sometimes I end up skipping my 'allocated' day and then have to make it back up but wondering if it's ok to run on consecutive days rather than having a day rest in between. This way I dont keep 'slipping' my deadline for running 5k if I have to miss a day because my little one takes longer than usual to go to bed or I'm just too exhausted and it's too late. What's the advice here?
Guest Matthew Henry
When I was an active duty Marine I never experienced any problems running 5 or more consecutive days except for the usual soreness when I was a beginner or after a rough workout. I had a fitness test every once in a while, so to stay in shape for that I would try not to have any more than 2 consecutive days of rest. If you take 3-4 days, the soreness stage may start over again. On days that you don't have time to run, I would recommend taking about 10 minutes to do leg stretches, squats, and lunges. Thank you for your post! -Matt
Guest Matthew Henry
I should also add that if you are a beginner, listen to your body when it tells you to slow down. Learn the difference between dull soreness pains and a sharp pain that may lead to injury.
KellyAnn
When I don't feel like working out or I can't, I get my steps in around the house, cleaning something, squats on the phone, push-ups on the counters, jog in place. Don't be too hard on yourself. 3 days is great to workout. Don't feel guilty about working out an d hubby puts the kids to bed. Us Moms feel guilty about getting time for ourselves. Good luck. Guest Anne
Hi. I do my runs witha day in between, sometimes two days if my work schedule is busy. I am wondering why your husband can't put your children to bed 4 nights per week? If you both work full time then you are both responsible for the child care and housework. You should not feel guilty about prioritising your fitness. It is good for you and your family. Good Luck! Anne
