  1. I have never been fit in my entire life, and I'm ready to make the change to a healthier lifestyle. I'm getting married next June and want to look and feel the best I ever have. I hope I can do this..
  2. Hello all. I'm new to the C25K challenge. I had wanted to do it previously but it wasn't a free app yet. I am excited to see what this program can do for me. I'm a 26 year old mom of three young boys. I also suffer from polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). I use the term suffer because weight is nothing but a struggle due to insulin resistance and very poor metabolism that comes with the disease. Most women with PCOS aren't able to conceive, and I have been blessed enough to have had three beautiful children. However, I now have baby weight that will take twice the effort of the average woman to get off. With that being said, I am excited to start this program and see what results it can provide. My only question coming into this is what is the proper "form" for running and jogging? I've heard a lot of people say it's very important, and I don't want to be doing it the wrong way and injure any muscles. Thanks
  3. So I have just completed w1d1. When I say completed I don't mean that I actually ran the whole time I was meant to: but I did make it to the end of the cool down without keeling over so that's a win in my book! A bit of background, I'm a nearly 33yo Aussie whose previous exercise history is basically none existent. I'd go for a walk every now and then and feel good about myself for a bit until I would realise my clothes were getting a bit tight so I'd go walking... And then buy the next size up. All that is about to change. I am seriously committed this time, not because I want to lose weight or look good or anything like that. But just because I want to be able to run. As simple as that. So how did W1D1 go? Well like I said, I finished it so that's a plus. The first 60 seconds flew past, oh yeah I could do this all day. Then the next 60 seconds and I made to about 57 before I had to walk. After that it was pretty much all down hill (figuratively speaking) ranging between gasping for air, wanting to die and hoping like crazy that I wouldn't see anyone I knew! So yep there was a section that I completely skipped and just kept walking but that's ok because I managed to run a bit in the next one and I didn't give up. I even did a little jog after it was finished because I was still a little ways from home and I wanted to see how much I had left in the tank (not a lot but it's nice to know there was something). Anyway I can't wait until Saturday when I get to go again. I honestly never thought I'd say that but there you go. If anyone is still with me, I have a question - is it ok to go for light walk on rest days or is it best to totally rest? Thanks!
  4. So today was supposed to Week 2/Day 1. But I didn't sleep well Sunday night: My right ankle, knee, and hip all hurt. This was the leg I was concerned about when I started C25K. I was ready to give up. But I decided to take another rest day today and see how I did. I managed to get 10,000 steps yesterday and am on track to do that again today . . . and I'm feeling MUCH better. So, after reading over the advice I was given about my first week, I'm going to give it another go tomorrow. I am planning to repeat week #1 and run at the slower speed as I talked about on Sunday's post and see how it goes. I will keep you updated!!
  5. I started my journey at 261.5 pounds. I am finally ready to change. I have lost nearly 15 pounds with Weight Watchers and have only been walking for exercise. I have a friend who is an avid runner, having completed a number of half marathons and currently training for her first full marathon. Though I am intrigued by her, I've always said I couldn't do it (while she stands there and tells me I could!!). I can't say what the turning point was . . . . reading a lot of WW blogs and success stories I guess. Many had become runners and most said "I never thought I could". The more I read the more I saw myself. The icing on the cake was when one of those bloggers said "Never discount a form of exercise until you try it." Soooooooo . . . . I decided to try it! I'm early in my journey but I'm still very excited. I have run three days in a row, not understanding I was supposed to run on alternate days. I was unable to complete Day #1 so I repeated W1/D1 the next day and I finished it!! I was so proud of myself!! Today I completed W1/D2 and that was when I discovered there are only three training days per week!! So I will take tomorrow off and the do W1/D3 on Sunday. My ultimate goal is to run 10K. I never thought I'd hear myself say those words. I have bad knees and bad ankles; I was sure this would only complicate that. But, after three days of running, I have to say that rather than causing problems I feel like it is improving my weaknesses in my legs. I feel so much stronger already! I'm amazed . . . and today I BELIEVE that one day I will be running a 10K run!!

  7. Hi all, I will start out by saying that I found the app for C25K first, then found this site. The app is still on my phone. But two months have gone by and I have not even looked at it. I honestly think I am afraid to even try it because I know I will fail. I know that is not the right mind set, but this is coming from a life-long fat kid who has grown into a fat adult. You experience a lot of this kind of thinking. I was very active as a kid, still overweight for my age, but I did softball, volleyball, golf, swimming, you name it, but but I was never good at running. At all. Ever. What really sucks is that I look back now and realize I wasn't THAT much overweight, but diets can really screw up a body, and a mind. As I got older I realized how much harder it was to lose weight and keep in shape. There was a period of about 5 years where I did lose weight and I kept active and kept it off. After a few life changes and family hardships, all the weight came back. And then some. Later on, I got married, had a child, got divorced, and put more weight on. My son is now 10, I am 42 and I am at my highest weight I have ever been. I'm scared for my health, and I am scared I am not going to be around for my son. I know what I need to do, but I just can't seem to get out of this rut. A very deep hole in which I cant seem to climb out of. Please tell me some of you have been in my shoes. I need to find a way to pull myself out and use this dumb app! Thanks in advance.
  8. Hi! I live in Albuquerque, NM and have found a love for running. I'm 39 (close to 40!) and a single mom. I've always "wanted" to run but never really put forth any effort, except when I was in high school and I didn't really try. Since starting the c25k app I have found that you CAN do things you set your mind to! I started Weight Watchers in February and started really working out on the elliptical. I then gave the treadmill a try and a friend introduced me to the app. The first week I thought i was going to die! Between week 5 and 6 I had to take a two week rest due to my left knee. I just recently finished week 6 and participated in the Ultimate Gladiator Dash. It was my first 5k/obstacle course. It was a struggle at times but I completed and felt great afterwards! I am currently signed up for the UV Color Dash 5k and the Rebel Donut Dash 5k. I am also wanting to sign up for the NMX Living Dead Fun as Hell 5k in late September!! In the process of all of this, while eating healthy, I've lost around 33 lbs. I still have a ways to go but I am feeling so much better and I'm so excited to feel the way I do. Many others have also noticed the change. I am determined to see this through - the running and losing of weight!
