  1. Finished the week 7 sessions last week but geez I really struggled even though I finished. So repeated week 7 and even my split km times improved heaps! Ready for week 8 and like I could climb a mountain right now! How's everyone else going?

    Hi

Welcome and enjoy the motivation these forums give us all! You can do this
  3. Yes I think I will be slow to finish anyway the 5k app and I'll just work on interval spurts after that
  4. Kellyann I've done week 7 day 2 . Just noticing it seems from now it is just building up from 25 to 28 to 30 mins. I feel my endurance is going ok like I can finish each session but oh my god I'm so slow !!!!! I really want to aim to do a 5km fun run next year but if I am for this I don't want to take 50 mins to finish it!!! Do you think March is a good aim to register for my first 5km? And do you think the 10km app would help me achieve my goal?
  5. Thanks for that ! I am very optimistic - my splits are around 9 min 30 now and I'm hoping as I keep going I can focus on speed once I get the endurance and distance covered
  6. It's surprising what your body can do. I too was shocked about the 20 min segment! I just did it slow. Like people say - our biggest roadblock is our mind! Good luck
  7. Great job everyone! It's hard starting but motivating knowing there's others in the same boat . Keep us posted on progress
  8. Karlaeliz: I had to start repeating sessions about week 3-4 from memory. I'm pretty sure I'll be repeating week 7 although I'm getting thru it I'm very very slow. Where are you located? Finding a place and time you are comfortable to run (shuffle) helped me also, not worrying about bumping into anyone or worrying about what I looked like - I live in a country town so I choose to run 5.30-6am which is a KILLER because I am NOT a morning person - but I lay out my clothes and snack the night before (half a banana and water and coconut water) then I set my alarm. In the morning I just don't fart around - leap out of bed then drive to the outskirts of town to a very flat long road. Hardly any cars at that time of morning and I blare up my headphones with Meatloaf, Cher, Crowded house and other daggy 80s music and start. I just keep shuffling! But it's an awesome feeling to finish each session, small victories matter a lot. And it's great to hear the "1 minute left" announcement too! I'm happy to be your update support so keep me posted on your progress. You CAN do this! We WILL do this. You will start to get looser clothes but importantly you will feel much better and healthier even if you are slow like me. Endurance first. Speed later. Tell me how you next session went
  9. I'm a couch potato too. Was. It DOES work and motivates you to complete each new session and achievement. I'm 47 so you can do this too! Keep us updated.
  10. Hi. You WILL do this. I say this as I am 47, overweight and never run before this app. I'm on week 7. Yes my weight means I'm slow ..... But I'm building my endurance and fitness first - speed later. My tips: rejoice in each session. Repeat a session if you need. DONT watch the timer. Put on good motivating heart pumping music. And come here often, these guys keep me motivated !!! Good luck
  11. Great job . Don't get phased by looking at future sessions like I did. Currently on week 7 and I struggled when starting to run 30 secs. Keep running as they told me!
  12. Thanks guys for the motivation - Steve those splits are per KM so terribly slow (that's Kilometre, not per mile) but I'm OK with that considering I started unable to run 30 secs. I am still a turtle but a happier turtle !!
  13. For those who read about my slow running last week, just finished week 7 day 1 (25 min run) and yes indeed my times (still slow) are improving. Have broken the 10 min and now my splits today were around 9 min 36 sec. I'll get there !!!!
  14. Thanks kelly Ann I'm just in awe of those runners who look good and seem so at ease running! Happily jealous but I'm stoked to get to week 7, I'll work on speed once my endurance is up there
  15. Just had 2 days in Sydney. I am just doing week 7 and am very slow. I noticed so many Sydney people running at lunch time around Sydney, circular quay, the opera house. And they all made it look easy and effortless! I'm very jealous!
  16. ok just asking do people actually get to run faster over time? I'm rapt finished wk6 day 3 today (22 min run/jog/turtle shuffle)! However I'm soooooo slow. Using MAPMYRUN app including the warm up and cool down I'm taking 10 mins per kilometre!!! That means in a real 5k run I'd take at least 50 mins if I maintained that pace gah!!!! Bearing in mind I started this app not even able to run 30 sec, I'm 47 and overweight so I'm delighted I've gotten this far! Anyone who started slow like a turtle and gotten quicker I'd love your comments
  17. I'm working towards my first 5k early next year. (Currently end of week 6). What worries me is a) being so slow having to walk parts c) looking like a dork !!!! I'm hoping as I continue this app some of those fears will go away! Good luck to you all and keep us posted how you get on excouch spud
  18. I still wouldn't be close to "addicted" as so many state they feel !
  19. Hi Tanya welcome and hope you have enjoyed starting! I am overweight and never run into week 6 - slow but making progress. You will do this! Good luck
  20. Try 2 rest days then go again. That's how I overcome my block and fear.

  22. Well done you too - can't wait to join you
  23. Started week 6 finished day 1 today. I'm actually starting to think I could be starting to like running! It's such a great feeling to finish each new session. When I started I couldn't jog 30 seconds. Finding these forums very motivating and getting lots of tips.
