Week 5 Day 3 conquered!

Recommended Posts

I did it!  C25K week 5 day 3 is in the books!  I ran for 20 minutes straight, which is 12 minutes more than I’ve ever done before.  I didn’t hit the 2 mile mark because I only run at 5 mph, but running for 20 minutes without stopping is a huge accomplishment for me.  I am by no means a runner, and just a few weeks ago 3 minutes at a time was rough.  I will say I much prefer the intervals to the long runs, but it is very satisfying to know that I am capable.

Congrats! I’m coming up on this, one more run to go then it’s go time. I have been mentally preparing for the last week ever since I saw they threw this 2 miles nonstop at me so soon. That’s a huge deal to achieve when you consider we’ve been easing up to it the last 4 weeks. I’ve been pumped I could sustain 5 mins the last couple days. We’ll get there!

I just did Week 6 Day 3 today and it was great.  I ran for 27 minutes straight to get the 2.25 miles and I wasn’t completely dying by the end!  I always walk afterwards  until I hit 3.17 miles and I did it in 45 minutes 25 seconds.  45 minutes is my goal for my first 5K in November, so I’m hopeful.  After I finish the program I am planning on starting over outside because I have been doing it only on the treadmill (at a 2 incline) so far.  Good luck with your long run!

That's awesome. I remember that being my dreaded day lat time I first did the programme. Seemed scary. After two years off not running I'm starting again on Monday

The day after when it went back to intervals I was happy and couldn’t understand how people said the long runs were better, but now that I am on week 8 I agree!  Long runs are satisfying.  I also crave running—on my off days I get cranky that I can’t run, lol.  Good luck on Monday!

Thank you.   Ive now completed week five and the 20 minute run was awesome. Felt like I could keep going. Week 6 this week. Feeling satisfied

This will be my third time trying to hit week 5 day 3 without stopping. The last two times I stopped at around 15 minutes. I’ve had to cut my running down because my knees were getting really sore so I haven’t run in 3 days. Wish me luck!

Good job! I just reached 5K and it’s been hard trying to finish 5K again. For various reasons I’ve not been able to reach 5K again the last two times I tried. Most recently I gave up 5 minutes short, which is not something I’ve done since starting long runs. Never gave up before. Very disappointing.

I just finished w5d3 and didn’t quite make it. Wondering if people repeat it until they make it or move on to the next day?  What is better to do?

If you’re using the Apple Watch app (as I do) you’re forced to keep going because you can’t go back. The phone app would allow you. From a personal perspective it depends on what is more important to you: the steps along the way or the destination. If you feel you can move on do so or if you feel not quite ready repeat. It is your journey. No right or wrong.

So, I have a couple of questions I was hoping you guys could help with, as you're further on than I am.

Just hit week 3 day 3, (off the top of my head, its the 90 run, 90 walk, 3 minute run, 3 minute walk week), and I've been pushing myself to hit 2 miles each session, so far pretty damn successfully, is that something you guys did too?

Also I've been monitoring my heart rate through this, did anyone else? Notice mine is always in the maximum/anaerobic range, so not sure if I'm pushing myself too hard (I've always done the sessions without too much difficulty, although sweaty af after haha) or if thats just what the body does while being pushed further and if I go back to lile, week 1, I wouldn't hit that high a rate.
