JoeInLa
I'm sure this has been asked many times, so please forgive me, but I can't find a definitive answer. I start week 7 tomorrow, and since the beginning, I've been running every other day, and that's been working fine for me. But as the distances, and times, have been getting longer I need the opinion from you experts out there..... Is it better for this 52 yr old male to start taking the extra rest day each week, or should I continue with the "every other day" routine? Any advice is much appreciated! KellyAnn
Hi. Proud of you. I like to go 4 days amd 3 rest days. Rest days to me means lifting waits not sit all day. Good luck!!
JoeInLa
Thanks KellyAnn... I'm at week 8 day 2 now, still sticking with the "every other day" runs.... Kudos to you! I'm not sure my body could handle running 4 days in a row! I'm loving the app, and loving the runs! I just wish I could speed up my pace now! fightingCora
I think its okay to do both I used to run 5 miles a day 5 days a week but that was before I got lazy. I plan on running 5 days after I complete the program and on my even days I will just start program over again so It will be like a rest day. torus_ot
Definitely the rest days are necessary for most of us. But if your muscles are trained to such load, the everyday run will work for you. It is my understanding that "every other day" schedule is for couch potatoes like I am.
danpincus
Great question. That core issue is listening to our bodies. This 62-year old man started taking two days off between runs, and I don't regret it. Then, once, I did it every two days. Best is to listen to your body. Stress, sleep, weather, bio-rhythms all matter. Keep it up. Yesterday, I ran my first 5K and it went great. Den
danpincus
I like to keep it regular, as in, on the same days. So, Monday, Wednesday, Saturday. That way, each run has a day or two of rest afterwards and the calorie burn is spaced out over seven days. Especially because I do Zen Lab calisthenics apps on my running days, the days intervening are rest days. On the rest days, I try to walk at least 10,000 steps. Linton23
I started the app and ran everyday. The only issue I had was in week four the 5 mins run.
