Day 1

Hi All, today I tried Day 1. I used to be in great shape- in the Army, very active- but that was 15 years ago. In the meantime, I have put on 100 extra pounds by eating crap and being a couch potato.

So today was day 1- but I couldn't compete all the running/ jogging segments. So I'm a bit disappointed in myself. My shin splints just hurt way too much.i don't want to give up but I know I have a very long way to go. Anyone else out there found success after not being able to complete the first workout?

I'm betting there are lots on here who really struggled at first, so keep your head up! You've already completed the hardest step by getting off the couch. My suggestion is to get a really good quality pair of running shoes. They're expensive, which will give you incentive to make sure you use them. If you can't complete a session, go slower. If you run slower than you walk it's ok, you're still running! If you struggle with a session, repeat it until it feels comfortable. Just don't give up!

read the Panda chronicles in accountability. You can do this some people repeat a day untill they can do all of it . There are things you can do for shin splints Wendell is right go find a running store not a big sports store but a running store where they will fit you properly for a good pair of shoes.Welcome we are here for you

I'm repeating week 1 because I was struggling and I didn't want to injure myself. Got some really good advice from a friend (the only person who knows I'm trying running for the first time ever). 1. Go to a store specializing in running shoes or at least trained in fitting footwear. I sucked it up and went and found out that my feet turn in when I step. Spent the money for the recommended and very expensive shoes and started week 1 for the second week. The shoes made a world of difference. They really helped with leg and foot cramps and made running much more comfortable. Glad I spent the money. So try a pair of "good" shoes. The second piece of advice was to be as kind to myself as I would somebody else who was struggling with something new. So I'm giving that a shot and going for round two of week one.

Hope it helps to know you're not alone in your struggles.
