nikkikay
Hi A bit about myself, I haven't worked out in years!(something I am not proud of), I gained 50lbs in the past 3 years and I am overweight by 30 lbs. I am diagnosed with Pre-diabetic and we want to try for kids, my doctor said that I need to lose weight.(solution for most of the issues I am facing). Started this c25k from yesterday and finished first day. I have few questions and would appreciate your help! 1. I am not able to run even for 1 min.. is this the case for anyone..or is it just me? how can I improve myself. 2. Four years ago I was in a accident which hurt my knee, I was diagonsed with runners knee. Since yesterday, one of my knees(my good one), is stiff and it is making cracking noise when I am hopping. What should I do. Please help! Thanks! Nikki
Guest TrishE
hello Nikki Welcome! Congrats on starting the program, family is a great motivator for a new healthy lifestyle. To answer your questions: 1. Yes it is normal for beginners not be able to run the full time of the running segment. Its ok Youre going from zero exercise to a doing a full body workout for one minute, its normal for your body to protest it vehemently! 2. Knees are a sensitive issue. Sometimes all they need to be strengthened up but sometimes it could be a problem that could lead to injury. If your knee continues to give you problems while working out and if it starts impeding daily normal activities talk to your doctor if you have one. If not and youre worried about it try walking the program first. A lot of people choose to walk it until they feel comfortable enough to run. This is your journey so you can make it fit your lifestyle and your body. Hope this helps! Good luck I hope you keep us posted

nikkikay
Thanks so much for responding! I really appreciate your help and motivation! Today I am noticing swelling on that knee planning to visit my doctor. One quick question about walking program how does it work .. should I walk fast instead of jogging for 60 sec time interval? Ariel Detonation
Great work on starting C25K! To help with the swelling try RICEing your knee R- rest, I- ice, C- compression, E- elevation. For my bad knee I take an antiinflammatory, like ibuprofen or aleve, ice it for about 20 minutes, put on a compression bandage and prop my foot on the back of the couch while watching TV. Something like that should help ease the swelling until you can see you doctor. As for walking the app, I would think that walking at a nice brisk pace so that you're slightly out of breathe on the running intervals and easing to a leisurely pace for the walking intervals would be a great start! Keep it up! You got this!
Guest TrishE
Exactly, you should walk fast enough so your heart gets pumping and your body is challenged by the exercise. If there are any places that have different elevations to walk on, that would be great! It would give your legs a bit more of a work out
