Hi Determined Janet,

Aweosme on quitting smoking. Yay. It gets better too. I quit many years ago and never looked back. You will love the app and combined with swimming you will get strong and do very well. Hey, keep us posted here how you do. You can do it. Proud of you!!!

Welcome Janet!

Congrats on day one :) Youre well on your way to becoming fit, swimming is killer exercise. Dont forget to take a rest day or two even because of how intense your workouts will be. Your body will thank you for it. If you dont like the idea of not doing anything on those days, try some light yoga to rejuvenate the muscles. Also, eat lots of protein to support them.

Good luck :) Keep us posted

Yes ma'am some are doing c25K some are also doing c210k and the half marathon app as well. You get a lot of choices with zenlabs and their apps :) They also have some strength training apps as well. They just came out with a squat challenge app for iphone and Im hoping they make one for android soon!

Running is no joke, whether youre just starting or have been doing it for awhile. Just got to keep the right attitude because its a tough mental workout as well. Keep up that determination and youll do great things :) Your body can withstand a lot but itll quit as soon as your mind does.

Morning, I woke this morning and honestly tried to talk myself out of the run as my legs hurt like hell, but I got up and I'm just back from my run, feel so much better for doing it, I never realised it went from week 1 day 3 straight into week 2, should I be scared lol I need to Google some good warm ups and warm downs as don't think I am doing enough, did you start on this as a running novice TrishE? You seem very knowledgeable about running, its so nice to have that on a forum :)

Morning Determined,

You got up and did it. Congrats. So excited for you.

Yes, look up warm ups and cool downs. Its like driving a car, when you go on a roadtrip, you just dont floor it and drive away fast, ok, maybe some people do but its not good for your car. Your body needs proper warm ups amd cool downs to avoid injury. Prepare your body for performance. When you warm up your blood vessels dilate and your heart doesnt have to work so hard and you wont have high blood pressure when you run. Your body temperature increases and you will not injure yourself. I have taught exercis classes for years and you do nit want to do any jumping exercises until you are warmed up. I have popped many leg muscles and i dont wamt to be down for weeks so i warm up!!!!

Same as when you cool down, walk until you're breathing is normal again. Never ever just stop and be done. Cool down for at least 5 minutes. My warm ups are walking, then i get faster in the end. Thats it. Cool downs are the same and then i stretch. Stretch warm muscles, never cold.

Hope this helps you. You are doing great. Now you have motivated me to get out for my 3rd day run. Lol. Its snowing out. Figures. But i can do it. And its 34 out with the wind chill. Okkk. Happy Running!!!

I dont like to run in the snow but i will hike in it. Great workout. I have snow shoes too. We havent had a lot of snow this year. Now it snows in May. Sheesh.

Anything we can do to help you on your journey, ask away. TrishE and i love this and love helping.

Way to push through the pain and get out there Determined!

Yes i was a novice runner when I did start but I come from a very physically active family and have coached and done sports my whole life. I was a runner hater for the longest time and only did it when I had to haha Thats what is so great about zenlabs. I went from a hater to a runner and now I cant live without it :) I did a lot of research and googling when I started because whenever I do something I want to do it perfectly (coming from my competitive and sporting family haha). My brother in law is a marathon runner and hes given me a lot of tips and tricks along the way. I love doing the same for others and spreading the run love <3 :) so if you have any questions or need a push please just ask

Kellyann i find if I go out early I will get it done far easier,i think if I waited about I'd find excuses lol I'm sure I will always need some words of encouragement lol

Thanks TrishE, i also was a sporty person and lots of sport in my family, i just had kids and became lazy, also was a smoker, i quit 7 weeks ago and that is a big factor in me getting fit, i put weight on already from not smoking and being lazy lol so have gave myself a kick up the butt lol tHanaks for the lovely posts, its really good to have suport on this, definitely helps you keep going and keep on track!

This is great Determined. Yes i know for sure waitng to workout makes ya not so motivated but i taught exercise for over 15 years and those 5 am mornings and now not having to get up so early is awesome. I taught 6 classes a day and now to workout at my own time is soooooo great, but I would give anything to teach like that again, I live way out in the country now. Now i can craft, clean house, and go workout so not much on a schedule. Mornings are the best ever to workout , if i had to choose evenings I would never do it. I so admire and respect people who run at night or go to the gym. I used to go with ladies at 5 am. Now i barely get out bed and move by then. Ha.

I am loving your motivation!!! Feels good huh? Keep going!!!!!!

Hi there Determined.

I was fit then, lol, but after teaching for years and moving to a place where I cannot teach anymore, well, i have gained some back. But I am dtermined to get it off. I miss those teaching days, but Inlove helping here and encouraging people. It is fun. Keeps my butt motivated too. I need that. All of my walking buddies moved so I am by myself while I work out. Inlove these forums as they help me too. I would consider myself fit, but the scale says NO. Lol. But I am like everyone else too, i have to make myself get out there and move it move it.

I am so happy you are doing great. Thanks for posting your progress here. There are quite a few of us on MFP and we cheer each other on. My name is kellyannbarr1
