MåRíA
I don't want to say I'm looking for cheap shoes, because I need good quality shoes. But $ is an issue; I run cuz I can't afford a gym membership or fancy workout program. That being said, what brand of shoes have given you the best bang for your buck? What shoes have you tried that reduced the most shin pain?
jvincent78
For me it was Asics. We have a store near us called Road Runner Sports (http://www.roadrunnersports.com/) and they did custom orthotics for me and got me in the right shoes. Made a huge difference...I had started running because I knew I needed to for health, but was working through the shin and knee pain. After the new shoes, it became a joy to run and I actually looked forward to it. (and yes, I hear you on $ being an issue. It's definitely an investment) If you can find the right shoe, a lot of times you can find last years model of that shoe on Amazon for way less than in the stores. Also (don't know if you already do this) but at the store they showed me some stretches for the shin. Stand by a wall and put your toes on the wall with your heel on the floor and push. You'll feel your calf and shin stretching. That's really helped me. With a combination of the right shoes and the stretching I've not had any shin pain in the last 2 weeks. MåRíA
Thanks! I looked into them on Amazon.com and they had pretty good reviews. I agree with the stretching, before and after, and yoga between runs! But I'll add that stretch to my repertoire.

Guest Miss10k
I splurged at a discount shoe store for the reebok runtone shoes, my pain all went away! Also look up how to properly land on your feet, that also made a great difference to me!

Guest Rgallop
I splurged on good shoes with inserts based on what the running store suggested that helped a great deal. Then I started reading about foot planting, at this point my lower inner calf on both legs are sore, I stay hydrated, and am only run/ walk on c25k 3 times a week. I'm on week 3 day 3 is this soreness just the build up of muscle or do you think I'm a ting incorrectly? I'm still running pretty slow but I am carrying around an extra 60 lbs and I'm 55. If anyone has any thoughts I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Guest Maria
1) Potassium helps with soreness. Maybe 1/2 a banana about 30 minutes before the run? 2) stretch! And stretch on the off days. Hold a stretch for every muscle group at least 20 seconds, before and after running. 3) ssee if you can run with someone that might check your form. You might be over-compensating. Since I posted this, I have completed the C25K program and I ran my full first 5K last Friday! Don't give up!
