Guest Allie Nixon
I am going to be new to running. Problem is, I was born with SVT (heart condition that makes heart race over 200 beats a min) I have noticed anytime I start to run/jog in the past, my heart quickly jumps and beats like crazy. Doctor said it was fine to exercise, but it freaks me out when it happens and makes me feel like I'm going to have an episode. I was curious to see who else out there experiences this and how they manage it? I'm definitely new to running and overweight so I expect challenges, just hoping could over come this first so I won't feel like I can't run. Guest Caz
Hi Allie, unfortunately only you know your body and it's limits, it'll be a case of finding them and building your confidence. Has a specialist programme been put together for you?
KellyAnn
Hey There, To me that would be scary, my gosh. Just like CAZ said (thanks Caz), only you know your body. The Dr., said it is ok to run? Wow, but he does know what is best. Just sit down and talk to him about your plan and see what he says. I have heard of this before. I would be apprehensive like you are. Keep me posted. HUgs
Guest Nicole
Are you on medication to control the SVT? I'm a nurse on a cardiac unit and I think it would be fine to run as long as the SVT is controlled w medication. How long after starting to run does your heart rate jump up over 200? And how long after running does it take your heart rate to come down? As long as your HR comes back down after running and it doesn't get too high while running you should be ok. Know how to monitor your HR and if you do have an episode of SVT you'll have to go to your MD and have your medication/plan revised.
