Joezeppi
I've been told that jogging with your heel striking first is not proper form but this is how I've always jogged. Is it better to strike the ground with the ball of your foot?
1dayatatime
Neither! Both are really hard on your muscles and joints you want nice even strides landing on the flat of your foot. Think of your foot as a shock absorber the bigger the surface you land on the more shock from the impact gets absorbed. I hope this helps! 1dayatatime
Jaredpickett
I agree with their comment. Just make sure you are not running flat footed (stomping). It should be a rolling glide as you do make contact with your heal first but before you get full contact you should already be on the flat of your foot. Sprinting is different, you want to sprint on the ball of your foot.
420runner
I'm a believer in the barefoot running technique, which has you land on your forefoot. Of course, this is somewhat difficult to do with most shoes that have an elevated heel. It's much easier with a zero drop (flat) shoe. If you can find a place to run barefoot on a smooth concrete or tile surface, you will soon find out how much force is generated through heel striking, and you will naturally start running with a forefoot strike. This technique does use different muscles, and requires some transition time. https://youtu.be/7jrnj-7YKZE PapaJ
