starsfellonal
I'm currently in the middle of week 6 in the program and will be done with it in the first week of January. There is a Hot Chocolate run later that month that seems like it would be fun to do. The problem is,they want you to maintain a 15 minute mile pace and this would be my first ever 5k. I'm anxious about signing up for those reasons but also excited to get my first 5k under my belt. Is this a good idea or am I setting myself up for failure? KellyAnn
Hi there to you and Welcome. You will be just fine. You are already at week 6 and I totally can do it. Ive never heard of a race saying you had to be at a certain speed? How are you running now??? When I was at my fastest ever I was doing a 9 minute mile. Of course as i have gotten older, I am way slower now. Wayyyyy slower. Like 12-15 minutes. Sooo you will do awesome. Leg us know how it goes!!! Good luck. starsfellonal
I thought it was odd too that there was a time limit. My sister said that she has come across a few races like that. I'm only running at 14-15 minutes right now. I've been focusing on completing the program's daily requirements instead of speed. I was thinking that I could work on speed after I finished the program. As a preteen I could run a 6.5 minute mile, but 30 years later and about 70lbs heavier than I should be, not even close! So I feel you on speed! Thanks for your reply. I might wait until the last minute to sign up, so I can time a few practice runs first.
