akd
I am not finding instructions on how fast to walk or run. If a person is moving pretty slowly, they are not going to reach 5k by the time the timer ends. Am I missing something?
KellyAnn
Hi there, What do you mean when the timer runs out??? You don't run a 5kk every time you run the app for the day. It averages in the beginning about 1.5 miles. You then build up as the days go on and you will be running a 5k Is this what you mean?? Are you already running a 5k before you started this app?? If you are,, then you might want start with the 10k app like I did. I was already running a 5k and can hike 10-15 miles. Let me know how to help you. Good luck. Guest TrishE
hello akd! Welcome. There is no pacing instructions with this app. Its to help those who are just starting build up to running over an eight week period. If youre just starting a good rule to use is you should be running slow enough youd be able to talk to someone or sing along to your music without huffing or puffing. Like kelly said you wont be running the full 3.1 miles until you build up your endurance. I know a lot of people a little later on in the program will push themselves after the timer stops to do the 5k but its not necessary until youre ready. Hope this helps, good luck
AmandaCunningham
Question.. It has week 1 days 1-3 then goes to week 2. Am I supposed to be skipping days?
Guest TrishE
Yes you are. You should be running every other day. A lot of people do the workouts monday wednesday friday and do something like strength training or yoga on their off days. Running is a tough exercise that works the whole body so it needs some time to recover in between.
KellyAnn
Hey Amanda, I use the app 3 alternate days a week, I then I use one of those days to run a 4th time. Other days I do strength training, yoga, videos. Bike, hike. Whatever I feel like. Just shock your body by doing different things and your body will love you for it. Happy Running! gettinghealthyat50
I am approaching 50 and realize if I do no change my eating habits and start exercising my life could and would probably be shortened. I have added a couple of other workout apps besides this. My question is when I take my days off from this walking / running is it OK to do squats and push ups on my rest days ? Guest TrishE
Of course! Strength training like is a great way to spend your off days be sure to take one day where you give your body a break and actually rest but other than that go for it! sitnknitabit
I just started day one and I am wondering if it is okay to use the eliptical on my off days, say Tuesday and Thursday? Or is the eliptical too much like running?
Guest TrishE
sitnknitabit! Actually an elliptical is a good way to get an easier cardio work out on your off days because its much easier on the muscles and joints. Keep the settings low and the pace light though and remember to take one day off where you actually rest youre body needs that to recover.
