Can't get past week 1, it's been 2 months

I've been using c2k5 for about two months now.  I can't get past the first week.  I can run a minute comfortably but when I move on to week 2 I can only do 5 of the 6 runs.  Adding that extra 30 seconds just does me in.  My body isn't tired, I just can't breathe.  I'm 5'6", 165 lbs.  Currently I'm dealing with bursitis so I know that's going to slow me down.  Does anyone have any advise on how to get past this hurdle?  I do enjoy running but I'm getting frustrated since I can't move on.

Thanks!

I had similar experiences in various weeks and I had to remember that I wasn't supposed to go into the new weeks perfectly able to do them. If you do five of the six runs, you are still running longer stretches of time, which is improvement. Maybe rather than repeating week one, you could move on to week two and then repeat it until you find you can do all 6? (And of course, have you seen a doctor?)

Thank you for the response.  I've been doing week 2 just can't do it all.  I guess I'll just keep working at it.  And yes I've seen a doctor.  I had xrays and am on anti immflamatory medication.  If I don't have improvement in a month, they're going to give me a shot.  However the pills do seem to be helping.

I still consider myself "new" to running because I've been docile for so many years...  and I'm pushing 50...  I've made it to Week 7, and the only thing that's got me this far is the fact my speed is MY speed.  I HAVE to pace myself and start jogging slow.  Seriously, a speed walker could zoom past some of my jogging, especially the first couple of minutes.  You're not racing, you're building endurance.  On the days you don't run, try a couple of circuits that strengthen your leg muscles, like lunges, squats, jumping jacks, mountain climbers, etc.  Just my thoughts...

Ok I've moved on from week 2.  I think I'll be on week 3 for quite awhile.  I can do all the runs but the last 3 minutes.  Can only get 2 minutes done before I feel like my lungs will explode.  Slow and steady I guess.

Way to go! Keep going at your pace. A mile is a mile, doesn't matter how fast you do it. You're doing more than those who sit on the couch doing nothing.

I had to laugh at the speed walker comment, because yeah, I'm the same way sometimes. But one thing I've noticed out on our forest preserve trails, when I get passed by a faster runner, they're always encouraging "keep going, doing great".

I too find the first "start running" segment is always hardest, but then the subsequent sections get somewhat easier.

how is ur bursitis?  my mum had that.  she could barely walk let alone jog.  she got no success from the dr about it and i convinced her to try a massage at this place that chiropractors work but do massages too...she had about 3 or 4 massages, pretty close together, and he told her to sleep on the other side of the bed and she is as good as gold now!  amazing improvement in like only a week!

as for the jogging, i am new to this also.  i was supposed to start week 4 today but i wasnt happy with week 3 as i couldnt jog successfully for 3 minutes at once...2 minutes was the most i could do and that was pushing very hard.  so i decided i would repeat week 3.  i will see how i am at the end of this week as to whether i will move on to week 4, but even just today ive gone from 2 mins to 2.5 minutes so im improving :-)
