How many days rest in between push ups for beginners

How many are suggested for a beginner who is just getting off the couch? I know the app starts you off at 12 on your first day, and I'm not sure I can even do that many to begin with, so all tips and pointers are appreciated.

One day in between is optimal., with a two day rest on the weekend.  So do the app on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, then rest on Saturday and Sunday; then pick it back up again on Monday.
