Hi, I'm just starting the c25k app and I'd like advice on how best to follow the plan, what to expect, what to do and what not to do. Thanks

Try to stick with plan, but don't get too upset if some days are difficult to complete. Repeat, if you feel it is necessary, some days and even weeks. If you doing any day from C25K you are already ahead of guys who sitting on the couch.
The most often mistake is running too fast. For starters main goal, I think, should be completing the day, even if it is not running, but schlepping.
So, I did my C25K with time intervals, not distance intervals. When I felt OK I was adding "bonus" running interval at the end. It also gave me boost of confidence that I can complete next day from the program.
It is also best ask questions on the forum (not PM), others can give some input and all will benefit from community wisdom.
