What is r/running's opinion on treadmills?

I've been reading around the subreddit (somewhat new, have been lurking for a month or two), but I haven't seen much information on how you guys feel about treadmills. There are a lot of mentions about roads and trails, but not much about treadmills. I live in Georgia so the heat and humidity is unbearable 3/4 of the year, so I value the climate control in the gym--plus I'm in there anyway 3x a week doing lifting.

I have about 20-30 pounds to lose, 15 of which is that darn Holiday Weight I'm still trying to fight off. I've struggled with food addiction for a long time, but that isn't really relevant to this post, so I digress :) I can swim laps in an olympic pool for almost 2 hours without having to stop, but man running is a challenge.

I don't even feel like I'm running! On the treadmill I get a jog going at 5mph pace but I can't go for longer than 10 minutes or so, with my longest time being 12 minutes without stopping. I've been reading that I possibly need to slow down, but what is the difference between running and jogging? Is there a difference?

Even at my peak levels of fitness I was on a stepper, not running the treadmill. Obviously right  https://nox.tips/  now my goals are heavily on the weight loss side rather than training for actual marathons and I hope that's OK with you guys on this sub.
