Maintaining Fitness for a Distant-Future Race

Hey all!

Well, after completing C25K and 10K a couple times, I decided to step up to 13.1. There was a race happening in my town in twelve weeks. No problem, thought I. Of I double up a few workouts, I can do thirteen weeks of training in twelve, or close enough.

Well, that resulted in a busted knee pretty dang quickly. A week of recovery from that injury has put the autumn race outside the realm of possibility.

So now I'm looking at the next half, in the spring. That's MUCH more than thirteen weeks away, so now my problem is: how do I arrange my workouts so I can make it to half marathon readiness and stay there until the race arrives? In the winter in North Dakota?

Any thoughts?
