AutisticDaze
Hi all, I'm new to running and well fitness overall. I've just completed w1d2 but just wanted some advice on what I should be doing to cool down. I've been slowing the pace and walk but should I do some specific stretching exercises too? Thanks
Guest TrishE
Welcome you should definitely be stretching but it can wait until youre done walking the cool down. So five minutes of walking to get your heart rate down and then some stretching.
AutisticDaze
Thank you TrishE. Are there any types of stretches that are particularly recommended? Sorry if that sounds silly but I'm new to fitness!
Guest TrishE
Not at all your basic leg stretching is always good (calves quads glutes) but I always recommend stretching hip flexors as well (you can always find good ones online or on pinterest). That can help prevent problems later on because running can cause hip pain especially in beginners. Not only that but stretching the hips can help a lot with posture even when youre not running. Another good thing to keep loose is your back. Running can be so tough on the back so always take a little extra time to stretch that out as well. I hope this helps! AutisticDaze
Thank you, that's teally helpful. I have had hip pain but have put it down to being overweight lol and I have a history of lower back pain, so I'll definitely research those stretches. Thanks again. Misis411
Ensure you have a good pair of cushioning trainers for running, helps absorb impact om the hips.
