ASICSGIRL
While I'm not new to running I am only 4 weeks in after a 4 year hiatus. The week 4 runs are feeling like a big step and the 5 min runs are tough. Tomorrow will be day 3 and I will probably repeat for another week before going to week 5. My concern is I signed up for a 5k at the beginning of August. If a 5 min run feels draining for me now, at the end of June will I be ready for this race in August? Im almost feeling like I should back out and slow down. Or should I keep pushing forward because I'm not in any pain nor do I feel soreness anywhere. Though I do feel very tired during the days of my runs...I feel like I may have jumped the gun with a 5k so soon.
Guest TrishE
My advice, just keep moving forward A month is a long time and your body will get stronger. The 5k is your race no one else's so even if you end up needing to walk its ok! Be proud you did it because you should be! You never know how well you will do until you try. lkenyon7
I would say listen to your body. I ended up spending 2 months on weeks 3 & 4 alone but I stuck with it. I didn't feel like I was making progress but when I finally moved to week 5, I breezed through 5,6 and am on week 7.
likeDUH
almost every time the running duration increased (3 mins to 5 mins to 8 mins now!) I would literally dread it. I unfortunately caught a cold between week 4 & 5 and didn't run at all for seven days. I thought there was no way I'd be able to do week 5 day 1 without repeating the previous day but it was really not that bad. so much of it is just mental and I think it's worth trying to advance rather than not continuing to push yourself! good luck with your race!
