Today I just finished the week 1 of the 10k program with my dog. He's a golden/chow mix about 5-7 lbs overweight and I'm about 30 lbs overweight. For the first half he's able to keep pace with me. After that he slows down to a slight trot and I have to slow down for him to keep up. I've never run with him before. Back when we were in shape he could handle walking for over an hour before he got tired. The only time he stops is for a potty break. If he gets too tired he usually lays down and refuses to move until he's cooled off. Should I move on to the next week as long as he's not stopping or should I repeat week 1 until he can go at a faster pace?
