Hello Everyone!
I just found this program, quite by accident while researching beginning running. I am going to be 68 years old next month and just hope it's not to late for me! The reason I've decided to get off my couch and do something worthwhile is twofold. Just one year ago, I lost my beautiful 2 year old grandson Nicholas after he fell into the family pool. After one month in two different trauma units, at two different hospitals, he was called to be an angel. It was the most devastating thing to ever happen to me in my life. This year, his daddy, my son, decided to take up running again, since he ran track in high school and lost it after 10 years, a marriage and two sons later. Because of his running, there is going to be a 5K in May of this year in honor of all children who have drown. My son has asked all of the family (and there's a lot of us!) to participate by either running or walking for Nick. I am so looking forward to it!
My second reason is because my husband will be participating in the Spartan Race in Atlanta this coming weekend. I will be attending with him to take pictures. While looking at all of the runners and the motivation they have, I thought....why not me? Am I to old at this point in my life? I'm in excellent health after just having a physical, look pretty good I"m told, for my age, and wonder if this is the right thing to do? sure, I can lose about 30 pounds and maybe since dieting and exercising at the gym is really not my thing, could this work??
I welcome any suggestions, any comments, anything that anyone can tell me as this is one of the scariest things I've ever decided to do! So...after this weekend, taking pictures, maybe next race I can tie on my running shoes....!!! Any input???
