New to running, 44yr old with knee and back problems

Hi, i have "walked" 5 - 5k's this year but would like to run them. I'm scared that I will hurt myself more. I'm doing my first 5k obstacle course at the end of January. Any recommendations?

I would work closely with your doctor and physical theraptist on how to ease into the running. They should be able to get set up with the best shoes, analyze your flexibility and get you set up on a program to prevent injury.

Take it slow and definitely make sure you have the right equipment. I started running at 38 and it's the best thing I ever did. At first, I had knee pain, swollen knees and ankle pain but I stuck with it and have never been sorry. Don't focus on how fast you ar, just congratulate yourself for getting it done! Also...music helps. Make a playlist of your favorite upbeat songs and let it motivate you.
