Jacquie got a reaction from Crabapple in Thank you!
Tomorrow I begin my consolidation runs. Thank you so much Zenlabs for this wonderful app to start on the road to fitness. It’s not always been easy (and my target was only a week per month).....I have run almost every other day but repeated a week for a month until week 6 when I did 3 weeks then week 7 for 2 and weeks 8&9 for one week as progress to the next step seemed smaller/slightly less of a mountain to climb as stamina increased.
Never would I have thought that I would run for 30 mins, to say I’m chuffed is an understatement. My next target is to speed up gradually as my pace is slow, I’m running about 4/4.8 mph instead of about 6.2 being equivalent to 5k.
However I’m in my 50’s and at least a stone over the weight I’d like to be and a good bmi so I am so very happy to have completed the challenge. The fact that I’ve taken my time is down to an initial comment I read here saying “I’m repeating week X until I’m not desperate for the walk rests” so that’s what I did and it means that running has been part of my life now for 6.5 months and I look forward to the next one.
Thank you for the comments I’ve read, the admissions that it was tough and the inspirational phrases, my greatest companion amongst them being:
“No matter how slow you are you’re still faster than the person on the couch”
Stick at it it’s so rewarding, good luck!

    Hello,
I just completed my first 5k run, right in the 30 minutes allocated time.
I have to say it felt really good.
To give you a little background, I'm 35 years old, and I have not done any real sports... for most of my life.
I started somewhere in May, last year . Ever since then, I ran each week until I felt confident about moving on to the next one.
For me it was mostly about getting in shape and safely reaching the 5k point.
So about one year later, I am at the point that I can make the 5k run, without any breath issues or pains.
And yeah, I did drop some weight as well which is nice.

Now I will slowwwwly move towards the 10k program, hopefully I will return in a year with another success story.

To conclude, here is a picture of the place I first ran the 5k challenge.

    Have fun!

Today i completed 30mins  jogging. The pace is still a bit slow. I could do 4kms in 30 mins. But still very much happy coz I couldnt even run 4 mins at start of the program. With balanced diet I also reaped sweet benefits of weight loss. Took me almost 12-14 weeks to reach 30mins. Although there have been some delays due to injury but I did not quit and hence completed it. Since my stamina was too less, alternate day jogging was not sufficient and so I used to jog daily(except Sunday) upto first 5 weeks. Also repeated the week wherever needed. Week 5 is toughest but remember not to quit and repeat if necessary. Every week seemed tough and hard to finish. But the thumb rule was not to quit and repeat until you finish a target week. Dont forget pre and post stretches at it helps prevent injury and helps in recovering. Take a break whenever legs are sore or in deep pain.
Best thing about the app is its breakdown to achieve the target. Must say its very skillfully developed. Thanks C25K :-)

The day after when it went back to intervals I was happy and couldn’t understand how people said the long runs were better, but now that I am on week 8 I agree!  Long runs are satisfying.  I also crave running—on my off days I get cranky that I can’t run, lol.  Good luck on Monday!

That's awesome. I remember that being my dreaded day lat time I first did the programme. Seemed scary. After two years off not running I'm starting again on Monday

I just did Week 6 Day 3 today and it was great.  I ran for 27 minutes straight to get the 2.25 miles and I wasn’t completely dying by the end!  I always walk afterwards  until I hit 3.17 miles and I did it in 45 minutes 25 seconds.  45 minutes is my goal for my first 5K in November, so I’m hopeful.  After I finish the program I am planning on starting over outside because I have been doing it only on the treadmill (at a 2 incline) so far.  Good luck with your long run!

I did it!  C25K week 5 day 3 is in the books!  I ran for 20 minutes straight, which is 12 minutes more than I’ve ever done before.  I didn’t hit the 2 mile mark because I only run at 5 mph, but running for 20 minutes without stopping is a huge accomplishment for me.  I am by no means a runner, and just a few weeks ago 3 minutes at a time was rough.  I will say I much prefer the intervals to the long runs, but it is very satisfying to know that I am capable.

I got to the dreaded first 20 minute run. It was raining, but I told my family I was not missing a day except under the most dire circumstances so I headed out.  Best run yet!  I think because I spent more time thinking about the rain everything else took care of itself.  Feel like I can tackle anything!

I thought weekly changes might be too much. I was (still am) quite overweight, over 50 and have never run seriously at all. I decided to try this (inspired by friends) but thought a week repeated for a month could work without being too intimidating. If I can achieve 5k by September I’ll be so pleased.

Wk5d1 wk 4 should have been 2,4,2,4 instead of 3,5,3,5. Struggling with hip and back pain.  Weather better less humid.
Still slacking on leg strengthening serious depression.

I finished the c25k app 3 weeks ago.  Felt great to finish, but you know what?  It feels even greater to keep with it.
I have gone back a few weeks and started running for the distance and not the time.  It has kept me going with a steady progression and now I absolutely feel ready to start week 9 of the c210k app!
My first 5k will be March 23!  I love running!  My husband has also started running and that makes me happy!!
    Keep running everyone!!
