Natcatvet got a reaction from OutOfShapeMama in I did it! First 5km fun run completed!
Can you believe it. I actually did it! The first km was up a slight hill, I got a stitch and my breathing was horrible. I nearly started crying but then was like, you got this, you've been running 5km at training a few weeks ....... Then I just settled into a rhythm and the last 4km was good! So grateful for the c25k app and these forums, I'm now doing the 10k app . Good luck to everyone else aiming for their first 5km fun run, honestly if I can do it, anybody can !!!

I graduated the c25k last year - never a runner in my life! I hadn't done a good run for 6 weeks, eaten a lot, drank a whole lot of red wine. This morning I set my 5.30am alarm ...... Knew it was going to be a struggle re-starting ...... But boy I feel great now. I'm determined to get fit again and run 2-3x per week. I need to stay motivated! (And lose weight ..... Again ......)

I am also not a morning person but it really is the best time for me due to work on-call etc - try as I might night running doesn't happen. I force myself - clothes out night before, get my half banana ready, phone and music charged up, alarm set. When it goes I force myself up right away and no snooze. Once I get out running I think, this is great, so peaceful, quiet. I wouldn't say I love my training sessions yet, but after I feel great. Good luck

My first Marathon in Vegas, i was in excellent shape, a lady in her 70's passed me by and offered me Ibuprofen. Phhtt. Lol. I will never forget that.

But I finished, i have short legs. Hee hee. I was moving and thats all that mattered. Yay.

Hit my goal of 24 km for the week; ran 10 km in 59 min. Next week is 27 km with another 10km run.

Update wk 3 day 1 - disappointed could not make the first 3 min run block and walked the last 20 sec, but I did manage the second of the 3 min run segment. Hoping the day 2 I complete it fully .

Thanks guys - yes azatol my dream is just to complete a 5km run first - then improve my times. But I'm starting to enjoy running and as I get fitter I might extend to 10km although that is way down the track. It was beyond my wildest dreams 8 weeks ago I would get capable of doing a 5km run but now I'm running 28 mins I think realistically I can get to 5km. Medals definitely not a consideration - just personal development . Thanks again

Good going speeding sloth ! If you flick around you'll see lots of my posts about me running very slowly but I'm on week 8 now doing 28 mins still only about 4km in that time. Heaps of great answers from regulars like Azatol, Ruthie, Anne, KellyAnn ...... Endurance first ...... Then either work on speed which naturally will increase distances, or extend from 5km to the next distance (10km) but that's too much for me at this time, so my plan is to get to 30-35 min and work at speed to 5km for my first race. Good luck !

Kellyann I've done week 7 day 2 . Just noticing it seems from now it is just building up from 25 to 28 to 30 mins. I feel my endurance is going ok like I can finish each session but oh my god I'm so slow !!!!! I really want to aim to do a 5km fun run next year but if I am for this I don't want to take 50 mins to finish it!!! Do you think March is a good aim to register for my first 5km? And do you think the 10km app would help me achieve my goal?

I agree 100% with the comments about BodyGlide, the stuff is wonderful.  Here's another tip, if BodyGlide is too hard to find or pricey, go to the drug store and buy an anti-blister stick from the footcare aisle.  It's the same thing, just marketed for your feet to help prevent blisters from shoe rubbing.  I've been using it for a couple of years now.

Natcatvet got a reaction from Karlaeliz in Wow!! Day 2 will be today!!
Karlaeliz: I had to start repeating sessions about week 3-4 from memory. I'm pretty sure I'll be repeating week 7 although I'm getting thru it I'm very very slow. Where are you located? Finding a place and time you are comfortable to run (shuffle) helped me also, not worrying about bumping into anyone or worrying about what I looked like - I live in a country town so I choose to run 5.30-6am which is a KILLER because I am NOT a morning person - but I lay out my clothes and snack the night before (half a banana and water and coconut water) then I set my alarm. In the morning I just don't fart around - leap out of bed then drive to the outskirts of town to a very flat long road. Hardly any cars at that time of morning and I blare up my headphones with Meatloaf, Cher, Crowded house and other daggy 80s music and start. I just keep shuffling! But it's an awesome feeling to finish each session, small victories matter a lot. And it's great to hear the "1 minute left" announcement too! I'm happy to be your update support so keep me posted on your progress. You CAN do this! We WILL do this. You will start to get looser clothes but importantly you will feel much better and healthier even if you are slow like me. Endurance first. Speed later. Tell me how you next session went

It's surprising what your body can do. I too was shocked about the 20 min segment! I just did it slow. Like people say - our biggest roadblock is our mind! Good luck

Started week 6 finished day 1 today. I'm actually starting to think I could be starting to like running! It's such a great feeling to finish each new session. When I started I couldn't jog 30 seconds. Finding these forums very motivating and getting lots of tips.

I'm rapt - to understand my celebration know I am 47 overweight and never run in my life. I did week 1 last week and was SOOOO PETRIFIED about running (jogging/shuffling) 90 second blocks. But I read the advice on here - cranked up my iPhone with Meatloaf, and DID NOT LOOK AT THE TIMING ...... Concentrated on the running and music and looking at the river, gardens, birds ....... IT WORKED !!!! Smashed it easier than I thought. Yayyyyyyy. 8.8 weeks to go lol
